Botox/Dysport

Botox & Dysport are FDA-approved neuromodulators used to treat a variety of cosmetic concerns including: facial lines/wrinkles, gummy smiles, eyebrow lifts, chin dimpling, and prominent platysmal neck bands. These products work by relaxing muscles that contribute to certain facial lines and wrinkles.

How Do BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections Work?

When our faces are animated by our expressions, including frowns, surprise, and smiles, we develop forehead lines, brow furrows, crow’s feet, and bunny lines (the vertical lines across the bridge of the nose). To combat this, BOTOX® temporarily paralyzes the corrugator, procerus, and orbicularis oculi muscles, all of which are responsible for horizontal surprise lines on the forehead, deep furrows—sometimes called “elevens”—between the brows, and crow’s feet.

BOTOX® blocks the nerve signals from the brain to these muscles, reducing activity and giving the skin the opportunity to relax. Over time, wrinkles in the skin fade, and with repeated treatments, less BOTOX® is required each time for the same effect. So if you’re concerned about fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes and forehead, but aren’t ready for a surgical treatment such as a facelift, BOTOX® may be everything you need.

BOTOX® is also the only effective treatment for excessive sweating, called hyperhidrosis. For those confronted with this condition, it’s embarrassing and often leaves the patient feeling helpless. BOTOX® injections can temporarily relieve hyperhidrosis by blocking the nerve signals that trigger the sweat glands, so severe sweating is no longer an issue.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Most people concerned about forehead lines and wrinkles, brow furrows, or crow’s feet are good candidates. Those allergic to any ingredient in BOTOX®, have a skin infection in the treatment area, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a muscle or nerve condition may not be ideal patients for BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments.

Is There Any Downtime?

You can expect the small dots to scab and fall off over the next week, which may result in some social downtime. Typically, patients see improvement after a single plasma fibroblast therapy treatment, but will often schedule 2-3 treatments to fully achieve their aesthetic goals.

What Results Can I Expect?

Relaxation of the muscle and softening of fine lines and wrinkles in 14 days.

How Quickly Will I See Results?

Results with BOTOX® are not immediate, taking from 7-14 days before the onset of effectiveness. Depending on the patient, results usually last 3-5 months. The effects may extend beyond that for patients who’ve had repeated BOTOX® sessions.
